The Alliance for Health Policy (“Alliance”) is hiring for a Marketing and Communications Manager to manage its daily marketing and communications, reporting to and working with the Vice President of Development and Engagement. The Alliance is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping policymakers and the public better understand health policy, the root of the nation’s health care issues, and the trade-offs posed by various proposals for change.

Candidates must have experience developing and executing marketing and communications strategies and a broad understanding of the health care system and policy issues. The ideal candidate will have experience managing marketing and communications activities in both the nonprofit and health care contexts. This team member will promote and expand the Alliance’s reach and impact. The role will be primarily responsible for executing marketing and communications strategy and activities, implementation of the Alliance’s digital communications (including email marketing, website content, social media, and targeted messaging to key audiences), and promoting the Alliance’s programming and content.

This is a full-time position in Washington, D.C., with a minimum of 2 days of in-office work expected in our hybrid arrangement. Exceptional candidates outside the greater Washington DC area may be considered in a remote capacity; please specify on your application if your application is contingent on a remote work arrangement. Periodic travel is required for remote employees.

Core Responsibilities

This individual is a self-starter and highly motivated with meticulous attention to detail and a policy savvy communication style that will allow this individual to clearly convey complex health policy issues to the public. The ideal candidate is well equipped to elevate Alliance communications, manage multiple projects, work seamlessly between teams, and have great follow-through on assignments and deadlines.

Executing marketing and communications strategy and activities

  • Develops the Alliance’s marketing and communications strategy in partnership with the Vice President of Development and Engagement
  • Plan, draft, and execute email, social media, and other marketing campaigns
  • Create content, collateral, and compelling narratives for general promotion of and improving awareness about the Alliance (e.g., marketing collateral, promotional videos, etc.); Alliance channels (including website, email, press releases, social media, and other digital media content); programs and events (including Signature Series, Annual Dinner); CEO remarks and communications; and fundraising (pitch decks, collateral, etc.)
  • Ensure organizational branding consistency across the website, email announcements, and other platforms and content
  • Ensure integrated marketing / communication plans across all Alliance programs, products, and services
  • Manage vendor partners, including drafting scopes for the creation of digital, video, and print content for Alliance channels, including website, email, press releases, social media (i.e., LinkedIn and Twitter), and other digital media content
  • Contribute to the development and management of the annual marketing budget, proposals, etc., in cooperation with Vice President of Development and Engagement

Implementation of digital communications

  • Maintain and improve the Alliance website, including writing and publishing content and event pages to the website
  • Develop and implement the Alliance social media strategy, manage social media accounts, and regularly draft and post content
  • Update and maintain health policy journalist contact list, manage press inquiries, and track media mentions
  • Monitor and evaluate marketing and communications analytics across the website, program engagement, email marketing, social media, and other platforms to facilitate continuous improvement and to support grant reporting

Promoting programming and content

  • Write and publish website content, email announcements, press releases and other digital media to support and showcase the work of the Alliance
  • Develop audience recruitment strategies and execute audience recruitment activities for Alliance events ranging from small discussions and congressional staff to public 400-person half-day summits by using an integrated strategy of email marketing and targeted outreach to the Alliance’s audience
  • Maintain and manage the Alliance’s Hubspot audience database, developing and deploying audience segmentation strategies


  • Proven, successful marketing and communications experience
  • Exposure to health care industry or health policy
  • Experience with marketing plan execution, ownership of engagement targets, and responsibility for driving and hitting KPIs
  • Documented expertise in areas of marketing that include strategy development, sponsor targeting, branding, campaign measurement and optimization, digital and social media, analytics, and promotions
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with communications writing, preferably with experience in nonprofits, associations, health care businesses, or other related work
  • Website editing and content creation experience in WordPress, SquareSpace, or similar web hosting platforms
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS and web analytics
  • Experience with Hubspot (preferred) or similar CRMs
  • Self-motivated and emotionally intelligent with the ability to adapt in an evolving environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or communications, preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously and across teams
  • Professionalism, efficiency, and demonstrated commitment to consistently high-quality, thorough work


Salary $65,000-72,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Please include your salary requirements with your application if they exceed the posted range. The Alliance for Health Policy offers an outstanding benefits package, including:
